Senior Compiler Engineer – Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Reconcile and align downstream compiler codebases with open-source repositories, which includes restructuring, refactoring, and upstreaming internal modifications as necessary.

• Lead initiatives to restructure, merge, or retire internal code to minimize divergence from upstream open-source projects.

• Design and develop infrastructure, tools, and developer workflows that enhance productivity, accuracy, and maintainability for internal compiler engineers.

• Create automation and developer tools that assist in rebasing, patch management, validation, and extensive refactoring.

• Investigate and implement AI-assisted tools to optimize developer workflows, focusing on code navigation, change analysis, refactoring support, testing, and review efficiency.

• Collaborate with compiler developers, architecture teams, and CI/test infrastructure teams to ensure scalability of changes across globally distributed organizations.

• Act as a technical liaison between internal compiler development and open-source communities, contributing to the formulation of long-term alignment strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

• Familiarity with open-source compiler frameworks.

• Proficient hands-on experience in C++ programming.

• Over 3 years of experience working with large-scale, long-standing codebases, including efforts in refactoring and restructuring.

• Strong understanding of compiler internals, covering IRs, passes, build systems, and toolchains.

• Knowledge of source-control-intensive workflows (e.g., distinctions between downstream and upstream repositories, patch queues, and rebasing strategies).

• Solid software engineering principles, with a focus on creating robust and maintainable developer infrastructure.

• Effective communication and documentation skills; capable of collaborating across teams and time zones.
