This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Investigate account balances and the reasons for non-payment, initiating claim adjustments and re-submitting a clean claim to the payer or billing the patient.
• Complete appeals within the designated time frame to prevent write-offs.
• Identify the root causes of denials and formulate effective solutions to mitigate future occurrences; draft appeal letters for denied accounts and gather the necessary documentation.
• Conduct cash reconciliation.
• Assist patients with queries related to billing, service, and insurance; communicate about accounts via phone and/or other electronic methods to resolve concerns, ensuring insurance is accurately billed and financial assistance is applied.
• Update systems with corrections to insurance or patient demographics; verify new insurance information with payers and submit/resubmit claims.
• Accept payments and post them to the account systems.
• Collaborate with collection agencies to ensure seamless self-pay collections.
• Establish payment plans, record payments, and complete end-of-day processing.
• Read, analyze, and interpret contract documents.
• Prepare records, reports, summaries, analyses, evaluations, and recommendations; develop statistical data.
• Provide support to other departments regarding insurance policies, collection processes, and billing.
• Document encounters and actions in the appropriate systems.
• Demonstrate integrity, innovative thinking, and contribute actively to the organization’s success.
• Adhere to policies and procedures, confidentiality, and HIPAA regulations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field combined with one (1) year of experience in a healthcare revenue cycle-related role, OR an Associate’s degree in a related field with three (3) years of experience in a healthcare revenue cycle function, OR a High School diploma/GED with five (5) years of experience in a healthcare revenue cycle-related or bookkeeping function.
• Must be proficient with a Windows environment and possess the ability to accurately read, analyze, and interpret contract documents from all payers to ascertain reimbursement; able to analyze credit balances.
• Preferred knowledge of the EPIC billing system.
