Senior Certified Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oklahoma.

📋 Description

• Reviews pertinent clinical and demographic details from the Health Information record.

• Accurately assigns ICD-10 and CPT codes in accordance with established guidelines.

• Ensures coding compliance with CMS, state, and other regulatory entities.

• Efficiently assigns hospital DRGs while evaluating documentation for appropriate severity of illness and mortality risk reporting.

• Offers mentorship and training to new coding staff.

• Conducts documentation analysis, including abstraction and code assignment by body system, organ, etiology, and morphology as per guidelines.

• Performs queries and gathers necessary documentation for coding from records held in other departments.

• Collaborates with the Clinical Documentation Specialist to address documentation needs, follow-up on queries, and finalize DRG assignments.

• Assesses provider documentation to ensure coding accuracy.

• Reviews medical records to ensure precise code selection.

• Maintains effective communication with Management and Providers.

• Assigns diagnosis and procedure codes for clinic visits, surgical procedures/deliveries, and other billable professional services.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding, and its application.

• Familiarity with various computer applications, including Windows, Excel, healthcare information systems, and encoders.

• One of the following qualifications is required:

• - CCS: Certified Coding Specialist Certification along with two years of coding experience.

• - CPC: Certified Professional Coder with two years of coding experience.

• - CRC: Certified Risk Adjustment Coder with two years of HCC coding experience.

• - RHIT: Registered Health Information Technologist Certification.

• - RHIA: Registered Health Information Administrator Certification.
