Senior Business Intelligence Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, gather, and validate data sources along with analytics requirements.

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain data systems and ETL/ELT processes that facilitate data processing, integration, and transformation.

• This encompasses setting up and managing Digital Science’s Fivetran instance, as well as developing and maintaining the codebase in cloud functions/GBQ pipelines for API calls to non-Fivetran supported data sources.

• Develop and sustain data transformation and modeling processes utilizing Dataform or dbt.

• Implement and uphold best practices for data governance, security, and quality, along with alerting systems and CI/CD processes.

• Play a pivotal role in business system procurement and change management, providing advice on the downstream impacts for reporting and analytics regarding system modifications, integrations, and implementations.

• Stay abreast of industry trends and technologies to pinpoint opportunities for innovation and enhancement.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar position within a modern, cloud-based environment.

• Strong SQL development capabilities, including expertise in designing modular, maintainable data models and transformations.

• Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses, particularly Google BigQuery, focusing on performance optimization, cost management, and handling large datasets.

• Experience in developing and maintaining ELT/ETL pipelines using tools such as Fivetran, Stitch, Airbyte, or similar.

• Practical experience with SQL-based transformation frameworks like Dataform or dbt, including managing pipelines as code and employing version control.

• Good understanding of data modeling principles (e.g., dimensional modeling) and best practices for data quality, lineage tracking, and governance.

• Ability to design robust, testable, and scalable data products and processes, with an emphasis on reliability, documentation, and long-term maintenance.

• Understanding of DevOps practices including CI/CD, Git workflows, and environment management.

• Excellent communication skills that facilitate effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Exposure to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services beyond BigQuery, such as Cloud Functions, Cloud Storage, Pub/Sub, or Cloud Run. (Desirable Experience)

• Experience with data quality frameworks and automated monitoring, including alerting, anomaly detection, or testing frameworks. (Desirable Experience)

• Familiarity with data visualization and BI tools, such as Looker, Looker Studio, Tableau, or Power BI. (Desirable Experience)

• Knowledge of AI/machine learning concepts and experience using tools like Vertex AI, BigQuery ML, or similar. (Desirable Experience)
