This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Create HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler calculations that support building design while ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations.
• Analyze mechanical, plumbing, building, and fire codes to provide direction in design execution and confirm compliance with code requirements.
• Examine fire protection and life-safety standards, including hazardous area classification and ventilation, to ensure design and compliance with CSA, NFPA (e.g., NFPA 820 for wastewater facilities), and other relevant environmental or industrial regulations within a wastewater context.
• Formulate and execute strategies for hazardous area ventilation, odor management, and explosion prevention in highly corrosive or combustible settings typical of wastewater treatment.
• Utilize software tools to draft and model HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler systems, as well as develop specifications for HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler equipment.
• Analyze pertinent codes and standards for fire sprinkler system design and compliance.
• Evaluate HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler drawings/specifications, coordinating with other engineering disciplines to ensure integration and adherence to regulations.
• Calculate sizes for ductwork, plumbing, and fire sprinkler distribution systems using industry-standard techniques and models.
• Oversee large projects with minimal supervision and play a significant role in projects of strategic importance.
• Typically requires at least 10 years of experience in building mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Preferred 15+ years of experience in building mechanical engineering or related disciplines.
• Previous experience in municipal discipline engineering designs and consulting within the water and wastewater sector.
• Established knowledge of fire protection and life-safety standards, building codes, and mechanical, plumbing, and fire codes.
• Highly skilled in relevant software for drafting, modeling, and specification development.
• Proven expertise in developing, drafting, and modeling HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler systems.
• Advanced capability to review and coordinate HVAC, plumbing, and fire sprinkler drawings/specifications with other engineering disciplines.
• A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is mandatory.
• Professional engineering license (P. Eng.) is required, and if needed, the candidate is expected to obtain licensure in British Columbia within six months of employment.
