This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.
• Develop and construct the control plane API, which serves as the interface for range orchestration and scenario systems to operate the internet simulation platform. This involves a strong focus on idempotency, consistent error semantics, and the operational patterns that enhance the usability of the platform API.
• Take ownership of the event-driven orchestration layer, which manages multi-step operations across the platform's subsystems, guaranteeing that the establishment of a new range, the registration of a persona, the integration of a SaaS application, or the updating of topology is executed accurately and thoroughly across all components.
• Create and sustain the platform's persistent storage layer, delivering dependable and well-abstracted storage primitives for the services and subsystems that rely on it, encompassing file, object, and container storage as requirements evolve.
• Manage the deployment model for the internet simulation platform itself, including the Kubernetes operators or controllers that oversee platform lifecycle, the upgrade and rollout strategy for services that require zero downtime, and the configuration model for incorporating new ranges.
• Define and take ownership of the platform's state model, determining the authoritative aspects, the recovery mechanisms from partial failures, and the convergence process to achieve a correct state after disruptions.
• Collaborate with the network simulation tech lead on the in-range proxy agent architecture, handling the infrastructure side of that interface, including agent deployment, connectivity management, and the handoff model when an agent loses connection with the control plane.
• Partner with the SRE team on the operational model for a new platform service, developing runbooks, incident response procedures, and the observability instrumentation that ensures the platform is debuggable in production.
• Contribute to cross-cutting concerns such as configuration management, secrets handling, and the overall security posture of the control plane.
• Strong bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is essential for written, virtual, and face-to-face interactions.
• Experience in building event-driven or message-driven systems, with an understanding of the trade-offs involved in various coordination approaches, ensuring that implementation is guided by architecture.
• Strong expertise in Kubernetes, including writing operators or controllers, managing custom resources, and understanding multi-tenant workload isolation.
• Experience in designing and operating storage systems across different paradigms, including file, object, block, or container storage, and selecting the appropriate abstraction for each specific use case.
• Familiarity with air-gapped or on-premises Kubernetes deployments is a significant advantage, considering SimSpace's customer and deployment model.
• Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code and GitOps-based deployment workflows.
• Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits.
• Access to company-funded counseling, coaching, and resources for you and your family through Spring Health.
• Paid leave plans designed to support you and your loved ones during significant life events.
• Equity stock options upon hiring, with annual performance-based grants, allowing you to become an invested stakeholder in our collective success.
• Membership to LinkedIn Learning to focus on your personal and professional growth.
• Monthly reimbursements for meaningful interactions with colleagues through our SocialSpace Community.
