Senior Backend Engineer, Shopping Agents

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of checkout agents: encompassing architecture, coding, deployments, monitoring, and being on-call for systems that operate continuously.

• Design and manage frontier-model computer-use agents that facilitate live checkouts at scale.

• Create infrastructure capable of accommodating retailer variability while ensuring rare failures are managed with automatic recovery.

• Scale product ingestion processes from hundreds of sources to thousands.

• Develop infrastructure that autonomously generates, validates, and monitors itself.

• Implement search and ranking through embedding-based retrieval, LLM query comprehension, reranking, and caching techniques.

• Collaborate directly with the CTO.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in building backend and infrastructure systems, with a strong proficiency in Python.

• Proven track record of owning production systems throughout their lifecycle, including deployments, databases, observability, and on-call duties.

• Capability to address fundamental classes of production issues rather than merely resolving isolated incidents.

• Experience working with adversarial systems where external influences present challenges.

• A strong emphasis on accuracy for systems that manage customer payments.

• Ability to operate without a completed specification in an environment that is rapidly evolving.

• Preferred: experience in production environments focused on AI-first products or LLM-based agents.

• Preferred: familiarity with classical machine learning and deep learning concepts, particularly in retrieval and ranking.

• Preferred: background in e-commerce, payments, or fraud and risk management infrastructure.
