Senior Backend Engineer – Shopping Agents

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architecture, coding, deployment, monitoring, and on-call support for systems operating continuously.

• Design and manage checkout agents that facilitate live checkouts at scale.

• Minimize checkout-agent failures and ensure automatic recovery amidst evolving retailer systems.

• Enhance product ingestion, expanding from hundreds of sources to thousands through self-generating, self-validating, and self-monitoring infrastructure.

• Create search and ranking systems utilizing embedding-based retrieval, LLM query comprehension, reranking, and caching techniques.

• Collaborate directly with the CTO.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in developing backend and infrastructure systems, with a strong proficiency in Python.

• Proven record of managing production systems comprehensively, including deployments, databases, observability, and on-call duties.

• Capability to tackle adversarial systems and various failure modes.

• Strong emphasis on accuracy for systems managing real customer payments.

• Proficient in operating without a complete specification in a dynamic, small-scale environment.

• Experience in creating AI-first products or deploying LLM-based agents in a production setting (preferred).

• Understanding of traditional machine learning and deep learning techniques for retrieval and ranking (preferred).

• Familiarity with e-commerce, payment systems, or fraud and risk management infrastructure (preferred).
