Senior Backend Engineer, Python – Core Gateway

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Assist in enhancing the current Perl-based payment gateway by debugging production issues and adding features during the migration process.

• Design, create, and sustain modern server-side components using Python, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.

• Integrate third-party APIs and external payment services into both legacy and contemporary platform layers.

• Maintain effective communication to collaborate efficiently with various stakeholders during agile sprints.

• Grasp the business logic and user implications of your development efforts.

• Engage in code reviews and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

• Collaborate closely with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and cloud deployment strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of backend engineering experience with a strong proficiency in Python (AsyncIO and FastAPI preferred).

• Proficient in Perl (or a genuine willingness to learn and work with Perl production code).

• Extensive experience in integrating third-party APIs with a thorough understanding of webhooks, callbacks, and retry policies.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitLab), Docker containerization, and AWS services (such as Lambda and cloud services).

• Experience with event-driven architectures (Kafka, message queues, etc.).

• Advocate for clean code practices and robust engineering principles.

• Excellent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
