Senior Backend Engineer, Python – Core Gateway

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Assist in enhancing and troubleshooting the existing Perl-based payment gateway while addressing production issues and implementing new features during the migration process.

• Design, develop, and sustain modern server-side components using Python, ensuring optimal performance and scalability.

• Integrate third-party APIs and external payment services into both legacy systems and modern platform layers.

• Collaborate with various stakeholders across departments while working in agile sprints.

• Uphold high standards of code quality and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

• Collaborate closely with DevOps to manage CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and cloud deployment strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in backend engineering with a strong command of Python (AsyncIO and FastAPI preferred).

• Familiarity with Perl or a willingness to learn and engage with Perl production code.

• Proven experience in integrating third-party APIs, with a solid understanding of webhooks, callbacks, and retry mechanisms.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (preferably GitLab), Docker containerization, and knowledge of AWS services (such as Lambda and cloud services).

• Exposure to event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, message queues).

• A strong advocate for clean code, capable of articulating the rationale behind every line of code delivered.

• A genuine interest in understanding how a product impacts end-users and the business.

• Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
