
Senior Backend Engineer, Python β Agent Developer: Flow Components

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
β’ Develop, deliver, and maintain secure, thoroughly tested, and high-performance Flow Registry features within the Duo Workflow Service and the GitLab monolith backend.
β’ Collaborate with Product Management, User Experience, frontend and backend teams, as well as artificial intelligence experts, to refine requirements and implement iterative product enhancements.
β’ Design, implement, and review GraphQL and REST application programming interfaces, associated backend logic, and establish clear contracts with frontend clients.
β’ Enhance automated testing using RSpec and other frameworks to boost quality, reliability, and developer feedback mechanisms.
β’ Share standards, patterns, and insights with fellow engineers to facilitate responsible artificial intelligence integration and evidence-based engineering practices.
β’ Engage in Tier 2 on-call rotations, troubleshoot production issues, contribute to root cause analysis, and enhance observability and resilience.
β’ Monitor the competitive landscape to ensure GitLab's Flow Registry primitives and features remain competitive within the agentic platform market.
β’ Experience in building and maintaining production Python applications utilizing LangChain and LangGraph, including background jobs, application programming interfaces, and data models.
β’ Proven experience in designing and deploying artificial intelligence-powered backend features and integrations, with a sound understanding of large language model limitations and responsible production practices.
β’ Proficiency in designing or enhancing REST and GraphQL application programming interfaces, focusing on scalability, maintainability, and backward compatibility.
β’ Strong SQL capabilities and knowledge of relational databases like PostgreSQL, including efficient queries and data modeling.
β’ Comfort in navigating a mature codebase across the stack and addressing performance bottlenecks at the application level and, when necessary, at the infrastructure level.
β’ Familiarity with JavaScript and Vue frontend development, along with an understanding of user experience principles.
β’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience in drafting technical proposals and documentation, as well as collaborating in a remote, asynchronous, cross-functional environment.
