Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Design and develop RESTful APIs adhering to OpenAPI specifications while utilizing SQLAlchemy and Postgres for auto-generated client SDKs.

• Create data ingestion pipelines utilizing Celery and Redis to connect with file storage, messaging systems, and email tools.

• Extract structured engineering artifacts from various unstructured sources, including call transcripts, emails, documents, and datasheets.

• Build and enhance agentic AI workflows aimed at structured data extraction, risk detection, dependency analysis, and proactive team coordination.

• Integrate LLM APIs, such as Anthropic Claude and OpenRouter, focusing on streaming, error management, and cost optimization.

• Deploy and manage services on GCP using Terraform.

• Write maintainable, well-tested code and take part in code reviews.

• Collaborate with the engineering team, AI researchers, and the head of product.

• Contribute to system design choices and establish best practices in backend engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in developing production backend systems, including at least 3 years working with Python.

• Proven expertise with AI coding tools such as Cursor, Copilot, Claude, etc.

• Strong background in FastAPI or comparable asynchronous Python web frameworks.

• Production-level experience with PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations, and query optimization.

• Practical experience with task queues and background processing using tools like Celery, Redis, or similar.

• Knowledge of API design principles, authentication patterns (OIDC/JWT), and service architecture.

• Familiarity with containerized deployments (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines.

• Capability to balance rapid iterations with producing maintainable, well-tested code.

• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or a lawfully admitted refugee or asylee.

• Experience in early-stage 0 to 1 startup environments is highly regarded.

• Valuable production experience in integrating LLM APIs and developing AI-powered features with agent orchestration frameworks.

• Hands-on experience with GCP services and Terraform is highly regarded.

• Valuable experience with data ingestion pipelines and ETL workflows.

• Background in B2B SaaS platforms, project management tools, or workflow automation products is highly advantageous.

• Understanding of hardware development, engineering workflows, or project management principles is highly beneficial.
