Senior Backend Engineer – Lodging and Cars

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Implement comprehensive technical integrations with external accommodations, transportation, and GDS partners while navigating intricate communication protocols and distributed data structures.

• Develop clean and efficient code in Scala or other JVM languages to maintain, enhance, and uphold high engineering standards for essential lodging services.

• Investigate and troubleshoot existing complex codebases to analyze infrastructure and resolve production challenges in a distributed system environment.

• Collaborate with Product Managers and Operations to break down business requirements into technical tasks and estimate delivery timelines.

• Assume full responsibility for the development lifecycle of new product features, from initial technical implementation and testing to deployment in production.

• Contribute to the design of highly resilient, low-latency services to guarantee a seamless booking experience for customers during peak loads.

• Engage in thorough code reviews and identify opportunities for optimizing scalability, performance, and system health.

• Strong expertise in Scala or other JVM languages, such as Java or Kotlin, with an emphasis on building scalable, high-throughput services.

• A demonstrated history of owning the technical implementation, testing, and deployment of features within a microservices architecture.

• Practical knowledge of distributed systems and service communication methods, including gRPC, Pub/Sub, and REST.

• Ability to quickly adapt and manage technical ambiguity by independently exploring and executing technical plans within existing infrastructure.

• Exceptional communication skills and a "bias for action" to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams in a remote-first environment.

• A professional interest in the travel tech industry and a commercial mindset focused on delivering dependable booking fulfillment.
