Senior Backend Engineer – Lodging and Cars

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Netherlands.

📋 Description

• Implement comprehensive technical integrations with external accommodations, transportation, and GDS partners while managing intricate communication protocols and distributed data architectures.

• Develop clean and efficient code in Scala or alternative JVM languages to sustain, enhance, and adhere to high engineering standards for essential lodging services.

• Investigate and troubleshoot complex existing codebases to thoroughly understand infrastructure and resolve production issues in a distributed system setting.

• Collaborate with Product Managers and Operations to break down business requirements into technical tasks and estimate delivery schedules.

• Assume complete responsibility for the development lifecycle of new product features, covering initial technical implementation and testing through to production rollout.

• Aid in the design of highly resilient, low-latency services to guarantee a smooth booking experience for customers, even under high demand.

• Engage in detailed code reviews and pinpoint opportunities to enhance scalability, performance, and system health.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong expertise in Scala or other JVM languages, such as Java or Kotlin, with an emphasis on creating scalable, high-throughput services.

• A demonstrated history of taking ownership of the technical implementation, testing, and deployment of features within a microservices architecture.

• Hands-on experience with distributed systems and service communication techniques including gRPC, Pub/Sub, and REST.

• The capability to quickly adapt and manage technical uncertainty by independently investigating and executing technical plans within the existing infrastructure.

• Exceptional communication skills and a proactive approach to effectively work alongside cross-functional teams in a remote-first setup.

• A keen interest in the travel tech sector and a commercial perspective centered on delivering dependable booking fulfillment.
