Senior Backend Engineer, Java – Core

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ukraine.

📋 Description

• Developing backend code and tests while utilizing open-source technologies to achieve dependable outcomes.

• Enhancing code quality through testing, refactoring, and peer reviews.

• Advocating for software quality, innovation, and suitable technology selections.

• Effectively collaborating within an agile team using Scrum, participating in daily stand-ups, planning sessions, showcases, and retrospectives.

• Engaging with business stakeholders and internal users to design and deliver products.

• Contributing to end-to-end user stories that guide a technical design, enabling iterative development by the entire team.

• Conducting root cause analysis to ensure that errors are thoroughly understood and not repeated.

• Contributing to coding standards and guidelines, while exemplifying adherence to them.

• Supporting your solutions to ensure that both you and the team are equipped to maintain its operation after hours.

⛳️ Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, and associated technologies such as JUnit, Web Application Servers (e.g., Jetty/Tomcat), Gradle/Maven.

• Strong expertise in MySQL and writing optimized database queries.

• Comprehensive understanding of architectural software concepts, Object-Oriented programming, MVC/MV* architectures, and asynchronous server communication.

• Familiarity with multi-threaded programming and concurrency concepts.

• Experience in designing and developing RESTful web services.

• Knowledgeable about web software architectures and design patterns.

• A strong advocate for agile principles, Continuous Delivery, TDD, and Refactoring.

• Experience with project tracking systems such as JIRA.

• Willingness and aptitude to learn about the business domain and new technologies.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Groovy, Spock, and Hibernate.

• Experience with cloud services like AWS or Google App Engine.

• Proficient in using Google Analytics and logging services such as Datadog, Grafana, and Splunk to monitor product usage and drive feature development.

• Experience with virtual services like Docker for automatically creating new environments for development and testing.

• Proven track record of delivering scalable applications that perform well under high traffic conditions.

• Comfortable working in a Linux environment and skilled in scripting languages.
