Senior Backend Engineer – Java, Architecture

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Create, develop, and sustain backend services and APIs.

• Implement unit and integration tests as an integral part of the development process.

• Lead discussions on architectural design.

• Evaluate pull requests for design quality and maintainability.

• Develop and update technical documentation.

• Contribute to communal libraries and establish platform standards.

• Actively incorporate AI/LLM tools into your workflow.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in professional backend software engineering.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with Java in a production setting.

• Proficient understanding of Java and Spring Boot.

• Experience in designing REST APIs.

• Knowledge of relational database design.

• Deep understanding of distributed systems.

• Proficiency in testing with JUnit/Mockito and conducting integration tests.

• Experience with event-driven architecture in production environments, such as Kafka or similar.

• Familiarity with microservices architecture.

• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.

• Proficient in any additional JVM language (such as Kotlin) or a willingness to learn.
