Senior Backend Engineer – Export

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with the staff engineer to explore and address intricate Chromium issues, such as upgrade failures, rendering race conditions, and problems arising from upstream modifications.

• Take ownership of the PDF accessibility post-processing pipeline.

• Develop PDF tagging and compliance features to meet PDF/UA and WCAG standards for Enterprise clients.

• Create monitoring and testing frameworks to identify Chromium changes prior to production deployment.

• Design accessibility solutions that are robust against changes in Chromium output structure.

• Assist with export infrastructure challenges, including format optimization and the reliability of distributed systems.

• Document complex behaviors of Chromium and architectural considerations.

• Support Canva's Export team, which converts designs into downloadable files and facilitates print production, AI model training, and thumbnail generation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with Chromium or a similar browser rendering engine.

• Proficient in C++ when navigating complex third-party codebases.

• Strong background in Java backend engineering.

• Experience in debugging layered systems that involve multiple codebases and programming languages.

• Familiarity with PDF specifications or experience in PDF generation and post-processing.

• Knowledge in rendering pipelines, graphics programming, or print production systems.

• Proven experience in maintaining systems with frequently changing upstream dependencies.
