Senior Backend Engineer, Elixir

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain backend services primarily utilizing Elixir.

• Assist in the design and implementation of scalable, high-performance, and dependable backend applications.

• Engage in code reviews as part of our collaborative development approach.

• Work collaboratively across functions to define, design, and deploy new features.

• Help maintain and enhance the performance, quality, and responsiveness of cloud services.

• Apply security and data protection best practices in your work.

• Support and manage production services, including troubleshooting issues, enhancing reliability, and taking operational ownership of cloud systems.

• Focus on authentication, subscription, and payment-related services that support Home Assistant Cloud.

• Keep abreast of industry trends and share best practices with the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five years of professional experience in backend development.

• Proven experience in developing production applications using Elixir.

• Familiarity with TypeScript.

• Basic understanding of system administration.

• Proficient in using Git and GitHub.

• Must reside in North America, Latin America, or Europe, with the ability to regularly overlap with the team during Central European Time (CET) afternoons. The team aims to schedule most meetings between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM CET to enhance collaboration across time zones.

• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

• Experience in building or maintaining authentication and/or identity management systems.

• Familiarity with payment, billing, or subscription platforms.

• Experience in operating production systems, debugging live issues, and ensuring service reliability at scale.
