Senior Backend Engineer, Defensive Agent

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and take ownership of the agent execution runtime featuring durable, resumable, long-running workflows, checkpointing, idempotent steps, cancellation, and timeouts at both the step and run levels.

• Design and create the agent tool layer that includes registry versioning, schema validation, tenant-specific enablement, and server-side authorization.

• Construct the connector framework for third-party security control planes, which encompasses EDR, firewalls, identity management, SIEM, and cloud IAM.

• Implement the safe-change pipeline that includes dry runs, simulations, blast-radius classification, approval gates, staged rollouts, rollbacks, and immutable audit trails per tenant.

• Enhance tenant isolation for agents performing write operations, incorporating execution boundaries, egress control, quotas, and measures to prevent cross-tenant data leakage.

• Develop ETL and GraphQL product features focused on data processing and retrieval that support agent context, run history, and remediation status.

• Create ETL pipelines that transform pentest and remediation results into datasets for research training and evaluation purposes.

• Integrate distributed tracing into agent runs, along with per-tenant cost and token accounting, and tools to elucidate agent behavior.

• Collaborate with AI researchers, attack engineers, and product teams to transition capabilities from prototype to production while informing research directions based on platform constraints.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

• Over 7 years of professional software engineering experience using modern object-oriented or functional programming languages such as Python, Go, Scala, C++, or TypeScript.

• Experience in building applications on cloud computing platforms, including AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Proficiency with container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

• Expert-level knowledge of SQL.

• Proven experience in designing and managing distributed systems in production, including asynchronous workflows, queues, retries, idempotency, and handling partial failures.

• A record of delivering and operating production services, including taking on-call responsibilities.

• Experience in developing agentic or LLM-backed systems in production environments.

• Familiarity with durable execution or workflow engines, such as Temporal, or equivalent self-built checkpointing solutions.

• Experience in constructing multi-tenant platforms with stringent isolation requirements, workload identity, and short-lived credential brokering.

• Proven experience in integrating third-party APIs behind a normalized abstraction.

• Understanding of security control planes and their APIs, including EDR, firewalls, SIEM, and cloud IAM.

• Experience with relational and graph database architectures, including PostgreSQL and Neo4j.

• Ability to build GraphQL backends.

• Familiarity with observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, and Grafana, along with distributed tracing capabilities.

• Knowledge of prompt injection and handling untrusted inputs.
