Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of the charge pipeline from start to finish, encompassing coverage, tax, shipping, refunds, multi-fulfillment, and mixed tender payments.

• Analyze production orders across five different services to pinpoint the service responsible for each issue.

• Conduct daily triage of reconciliation reports and direct failures to the relevant team.

• Manage scheduled jobs, sweeps, and unattended recovery commands.

• Oversee delivery processes end-to-end, including branching, pull requests, QA promotion, deployments via GitHub Actions to Azure, and QA procedures.

• Develop regression tests for every bug fix implemented.

• Assume complete ownership of the backend ecosystem that supports financial aid, campus card balances, and textbook rentals for approximately 1,200 university bookstores on Shopify.

• Provide support for a platform processing thousands of orders and webhooks daily, involving real-money transactions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of professional PHP experience, including at least 3 years of Laravel in a production environment.

• Extensive experience with asynchronous systems, covering idempotency, retries, dead letter queues, locks, and scheduled jobs.

• Strong SQL skills at the query-plan level, preferably with SQL Server.

• Solid cloud experience, ideally with Azure, including log reading, query execution, metrics monitoring, and deployment support.

• Proven experience integrating with complex external systems and APIs, such as SOAP, XML, SFTP, or similar technologies.

• Excellent judgment in handling financial transactions, including knowing when to refrain from executing a transaction and utilizing dry runs as needed.

• Strong testing practices and a commitment to treating automated tests as integral to the development process.

• Ability to take ownership of production systems and troubleshoot issues independently.

• Familiarity with Shopify Admin API, webhooks, metafields, gift cards, or checkout and POS extensions (preferred).

• Knowledge of TypeScript and Node.js, particularly Remix or NestJS (preferred).

• Experience with Prisma and BullMQ (preferred).

• Background in fintech, billing, payments, or accounting reconciliation (preferred).

• Familiarity with Playwright or other end-to-end testing frameworks (preferred).

• Experience working with stateful, high-volume systems (preferred).
