Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and enhance the backend services and APIs that power our global e-commerce and digital experiences for parents.

• Construct scalable data models and systems that are intended to grow alongside our product roadmap and an increasing global audience.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Frontend teams to deliver significant features that support every phase of the customer journey.

• Take ownership of the security, reliability, and performance of our backend infrastructure, ensuring a smooth experience for millions of parents.

• Direct the technical approach by assessing new vendors and platforms, considering the advantages of internal development versus third-party integrations.

• Promote engineering excellence by enhancing technical standards, development processes, and best practices across the team.

• Utilize AI coding tools and AI-assisted workflows to expedite development while upholding a high quality standard and sound engineering judgment.

• Improve our CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure to ensure consistent and rapid software delivery.

• Cultivate a collaborative environment through mentorship, knowledge sharing, and a unified commitment to our mission.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

• 5-7 years of experience with Ruby on Rails, Python, or similar server-side programming languages, along with some professional experience in JavaScript, Swift, Java/Kotlin, or other client-side programming languages (with a personal approach to learning new languages).

• Strong expertise in Ruby on Rails and SQL.

• Practical experience with AWS or similar cloud infrastructure.

• Familiarity with caching, queuing, and search technologies such as Redis, RabbitMQ, or Elasticsearch.

• Comfort with Docker, microservices, and containerized architectures.

• Experience in writing automated tests and working with CI/CD pipelines.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a strong collaborator and self-starter.

• Experience with NoSQL databases and data modeling for analytics or BI (Nice to Have).

• Strong understanding of the advantages and limitations of AI-assisted software development, including when to depend on generated solutions and when more in-depth engineering analysis is necessary (Nice to Have).

• Background in consumer subscription or e-commerce platforms (Nice to Have).

• Familiarity with JavaScript for occasional full-stack collaboration (Nice to Have).

• A passion for early childhood development and empathy for parents as users of the product (Nice to Have).
