Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Collaborate closely with the engineering team to provide solutions that range from minor client support to extensive modifications facilitating significant new features.

• Partner with the support and operations teams to analyze substantial client issues from fundamental principles and suggest innovative solutions.

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Lessonspace stack, infrastructure, and internal development environment, as well as how our customers utilize our services, aiming to become a valuable resource of internal systems knowledge for other engineers and teams.

• Take complete ownership of your feature releases, including testing and reliability, ensuring the successful delivery of major releases with confidence and minimal guidance.

• Engage at the intersection of engineering, sales, and operations, potentially contributing to the delivery of specific features that facilitate a smooth onboarding experience for larger clients on our platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• A university degree is not mandatory, though it would be advantageous.

• A minimum of 6 years of industry experience.

• Experience working within an engineering team and participating in client-facing roles.

• Proficiency with Node.js and associated testing frameworks.

• Familiarity with networking and network-driven systems.

• Knowledge of Linux (primarily shell scripting, with networking skills as a bonus). Please note that our entire stack is designed for and operates on Linux systems.

• Experience with Python (Django is a plus).

• Bonus: familiarity with the standard frontend stack, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, a reactive framework such as Vue or React, and frontend testing frameworks like Jest and Cypress.

• Bonus: experience with AWS (or GCP / Azure).

• Bonus: knowledge of WebRTC or CRDTs.

• Bonus: devops experience with Nomad (or Kubernetes) and Docker.
