Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Design and take ownership of the backend architecture for user authentication, profiles, activities, preferences, and progress tracking.

• Develop and sustain scalable backend services utilizing NestJS and TypeScript.

• Create secure, mobile-optimized REST APIs accompanied by OpenAPI/Swagger documentation.

• Model and enhance PostgreSQL databases through the use of Drizzle ORM.

• Implement robust authentication and authorization mechanisms utilizing JWT, refresh tokens, sessions, and role-based access control.

• Develop caching solutions and distributed coordination with Redis.

• Construct background jobs, scheduled tasks, and notification services.

• Integrate push notification services via APNs and Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM).

• Establish structured logging, monitoring, tracing, and observability in production environments.

• Collaborate with Product and Mobile teams to define API contracts and ensure an outstanding developer experience.

• Write clean, maintainable, and thoroughly tested code while taking strong ownership from design to production.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in backend development.

• More than 3 years of experience building large-scale APIs for mobile applications.

• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js.

• Practical experience with NestJS or similar backend frameworks.

• Solid skills in PostgreSQL database design and query optimization.

• Expertise in REST API design, versioning, pagination, rate limiting, and error management.

• Experience in implementing secure authentication and authorization protocols.

• Familiarity with Redis caching and distributed systems.

• Hands-on experience with background jobs and asynchronous processing.

• Experience in integrating mobile push notifications (APNs and/or FCM).

• Strong understanding of observability, logging, monitoring, and troubleshooting in production.

• Experience with Git, code reviews, and contemporary software development practices.

• Ability to effectively utilize AI tools for planning, debugging, and enhancing developer productivity.

• Nice to have: Experience with the Bun runtime in production.

• Nice to have: Expertise in Drizzle ORM.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with OAuth2 / OpenID Connect.

• Nice to have: Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps).

• Nice to have: Experience in performance profiling and optimization.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with feature flags and remote configuration.

• Nice to have: Experience with event-driven architectures, WebSockets, or Server-Sent Events (SSE).
