Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Dominican Republic, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance the platform utilized for creating scrapers that gather policy information from over 100 payers.

• Enhance the reliability and throughput of scrapers while ensuring data accuracy is preserved.

• Take ownership of the scraper pipeline from data ingestion to storage.

• Create LLM workflows that transform unstructured policy text into structured, searchable records.

• Infer and tag relevant medical codes, such as CPT and ICD-10, based on policy language.

• Classify the coverage status of procedures by payer.

• Construct evaluation and testing harnesses to assess and monitor output accuracy.

• Develop and sustain CI/CD pipelines for the testing and deployment of scraper jobs.

• Oversee job failures, identify root causes, and implement fixes.

• Review pull requests from part-time and offshore engineers.

• Document architectural decisions and communicate them with the engineering team.

• Design and maintain APIs that deliver normalized policy data to clients.

• Provide support for the Snowflake-based data product.

• Participate in occasional customer calls to gather feature requirements.

• Act as the technical lead for part-time and offshore engineers without direct personnel management.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of backend engineering experience in building production systems using Python.

• Proven experience with SQL and PostgreSQL for managing and querying large datasets.

• Background in creating pipelines that ingest, clean, and normalize messy or unstructured data.

• Practical experience in deploying and operating backend services on AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Experience in code review and making architectural decisions within a shared codebase.

• Proficiency in English at C1 (CEFR) level for daily video conferences and technical discussions with US-based founders.

• Experience in building LLM-based extraction or classification systems with evaluation harnesses (OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, or similar).

• Capable of web scraping at scale using frameworks like Scrapy, Playwright, or similar tools.

• Familiarity with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines.

• Practical knowledge of Terraform, FastAPI, or Snowflake.

• Exposure to healthcare payer policy data, medical coding (CPT, ICD-10), or prior authorization processes.
