Senior Backend Engineer, Analytics Instrumentation – Golang

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead the design, implementation, and advancement of a cohesive data collection platform utilizing Golang, Kubernetes, ClickHouse, and NATS, with success evaluated through reliability, performance, and adoption by GitLab teams.

• Enhance the emission, transit, and quality of instrumentation data throughout the system, with success assessed by data quality, data integrity, and accuracy in usage billing.

• Offer technical support for usage billing and instrumentation systems during business hours, with success gauged by prompt incident resolution, effective root cause analysis, and dependable service restoration.

• Collaborate with research and development teams and the enterprise data organization to provide shared solutions, with success determined by adoption among various stakeholders.

• Make informed technical decisions that balance ease of use for product teams with reliability and accuracy for data consumers, with success reflected in platform usability and consistent downstream data.

• Guide other engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and comprehensive technical documentation, with success measured by improved code quality, quicker technical alignment, and more maintainable systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in platform or infrastructure systems within production environments.

• High proficiency in the Go programming language, with a background in building and maintaining production services.

• Strong experience in backend development, with the capacity to design and deliver scalable, reliable systems for both internal and external customers.

• Proven experience in guiding technical design and making trade-offs regarding system reliability, performance at scale, data quality, and observability.

• Proficient in collaborating across team boundaries with product teams, data consumers, and other internal stakeholders.

• Familiarity with cloud-native technologies and open-source development methodologies.

• A proven record of mentoring other engineers and assisting teams in making clear, well-documented technical decisions.
