• Design and develop the trigger system that connects GitLab events, such as code pushes, merge requests, issue modifications, CI/CD results, and deployments, along with third-party events from tools like Jira, Jenkins, and Slack to the AI-driven Duo Flows that respond to them.
• Contribute to the larger event platform, which serves as the foundational infrastructure that supports many of GitLab's AI functionalities by determining when and how to execute processes.
• Architect for optimal availability and throughput, as this segment of the system is central to automated AI workflows across GitLab and must efficiently process events at scale.
• Operate within GitLab's Rails monolith, where a significant portion of the event and trigger system resides, while remaining open to utilizing other programming languages present in the platform.
• Shape product and architectural direction by suggesting iterative solutions to complex technical challenges across a multi-service environment.
• Collaborate closely with team members, the product manager, and the designer to determine the next features the trigger system should support, likely beginning with an additional trigger type.
• Work in partnership with other Duo Agent Platform teams across departments to ensure that triggers and events integrate smoothly with the wider agent ecosystem that GitLab is developing.
• Participate in Tier 2 and Tier 3 on-call rotations to address production, security, and urgent engineering challenges in a globally distributed setting.
• Extensive experience with Ruby and Rails, comfortable navigating a large, established monolith and effectively deploying production code.
• Proven experience in creating products that interface with large language models, not focusing on training or developing machine learning models, but possessing hands-on experience in integrating large language models into practical, user-facing applications.
• Demonstrated success in designing and managing large-scale systems, emphasizing high availability and throughput in production environments.
• Practical experience with agentic systems and development, including the creation of workflows that enable AI agents to act autonomously.
• Proven capability to progress in evolving problem spaces and rapidly acquire new AI skills as the underlying technology advances while the team continues to deliver innovations.
• Strong written communication skills for effective collaboration in a remote, globally distributed team.
• Additional advantageous experience includes Python, as other components of GitLab's AI platform utilize it, and familiarity with using GitLab as a product.
• Benefits to support your health, finances, and overall well-being
• Flexible Paid Time Off
• Team Member Resource Groups
• Equity Compensation & Employee Stock Purchase Plan
• Growth and Development Fund
• Parental Leave
