This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Oversee the technical architecture and execution of an edge-native intelligent processing platform that facilitates distributed sensing, edge inference, and robust mission operations.
• Create scalable software architectures accommodating diverse edge computing devices, software-defined radios, embedded computing platforms, and cloud-supported mission services.
• Build high-performance backend services utilizing Python, FastAPI, asynchronous programming, and contemporary distributed software engineering methodologies.
• Direct the integration of Software Defined Radio (SDR) platforms (such as Ettus USRP, GNU Radio, or similar SDR ecosystems) into software pipelines for real-time data processing and analytics.
• Design resilient distributed processing frameworks capable of functioning under degraded, disconnected, intermittent, and bandwidth-limited communication conditions.
• Develop intelligent data processing pipelines that minimize communication overhead through feature extraction, prioritization, and adaptive data management.
• Create peer-to-peer communication services that support decentralized collaboration among diverse edge devices.
• Implement secure synchronization, workload distribution, and fault-tolerant processing across various edge computing nodes.
• Lead software integration across embedded Linux systems, containerized services, edge compute devices, and cloud infrastructure.
• Establish software architecture standards, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, DevSecOps practices, and engineering best practices.
• Work collaboratively with AI engineers to incorporate machine learning inference capabilities into production software.
• Generate technical documentation, software architecture artifacts, interface specifications, and engineering design documentation.
• Assist in technical demonstrations, customer interactions, and prototype evaluations.
• Mentor junior engineers while maintaining substantial hands-on software development responsibilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or related fields; an advanced degree is preferred.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience in designing and constructing distributed software systems.
• Proven experience acting as the technical lead for complex software development projects.
• Extensive Python expertise, including asyncio and asynchronous programming, FastAPI, Pydantic, type hinting, and modern development practices.
• Experience in developing distributed systems, microservices, or event-driven architectures.
• Demonstrated experience in implementing retrieval architectures.
• Proficiency in deploying applications using Docker and cloud-native services within AWS or Azure.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline implementation using GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or comparable automation platforms.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and Helm, or equivalent), and modern cloud-native deployment practices.
• Experience in integrating hardware and software systems.
• Proven ability to design resilient software systems that can operate under degraded or intermittent network conditions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to produce technical documentation and effectively communicate with both technical and executive stakeholders.
