Senior AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Uruguay.

📋 Description

• Overseeing the complete delivery of AI projects, ensuring effective governance, strong communication with stakeholders, and dependable execution.

• Creating and developing resilient RAG systems, agentic frameworks, and LLM-driven solutions suitable for production environments.

• Utilizing advanced prompt engineering techniques, including instructional design, few-shot prompting, structured outputs, and tool/agent prompts.

• Conducting feasibility assessments to identify the most suitable technical approach, such as prompting, RAG, fine-tuning, classical ML, or hybrid solutions.

• Developing evaluation frameworks for AI systems, including LLM-as-a-judge, custom metrics, recall@k, precision@k, and go/no-go gates.

• Executing structured experiments involving prompts, retrievers, chunking strategies, embeddings, reranking methods, and models.

• Recognizing and classifying model failures, including hallucinations, retrieval misses, instruction-following errors, and quality regressions.

• Establishing scalable inference infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines for AI and ML models.

• Automating the MLOps/LLMOps lifecycle, which encompasses tracking, versioning, deployment, monitoring, retraining, and ongoing enhancement.

• Designing APIs, microservices, and orchestration layers that are optimized for latency, cost, reliability, and scalability.

• Guiding junior engineers and participating in proposals, solution design, and new business initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of experience in developing and deploying AI, ML, or data-driven solutions in production settings.

• Strong proficiency in Python and solid practices in Git.

• Practical experience with LLM-driven solutions, RAG systems, and contemporary GenAI development patterns.

• Hands-on knowledge of RAG components, including chunking, embeddings, retrieval, reranking, and evaluation.

• In-depth understanding of prompt engineering techniques, such as structured outputs, few-shot prompting, instructional design, and tool/agent prompts.

• Demonstrated experience in creating evaluation strategies for AI systems, covering metrics, dataset curation, structured experimentation, and quality gates.

• Familiarity with MLOps/LLMOps practices and tools like MLflow, Weights & Biases, or comparable platforms.

• Strong experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, with Azure experience being preferred.

• Experience in containerization, orchestration, scalable inference, APIs, and microservices.

• Comprehension of event-driven architectures and production-grade engineering practices.

• Ability to communicate effectively with engineering teams, senior stakeholders, and clients.

• A pragmatic stance on AI delivery, balancing innovation, reliability, cost, latency, and business value.

• Nice to have: Familiarity with the Databricks MLOps platform.

• Nice to have: Experience in LLM fine-tuning.

• Nice to have: Background in building agentic GenAI systems.

• Nice to have: Experience with Infrastructure as Code.

• Nice to have: Understanding of security and observability practices for AI services.

• Nice to have: Background in classical machine learning.

• Nice to have: Contributions to open-source projects or public technical work.

• Advanced English proficiency is required for both written and verbal communication.
