Senior AI Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage production AI systems, which encompass agent orchestration, tool and API integrations, retrieval pipelines, and evaluation harnesses.

• Architect and uphold marketing databases, datasets, pipelines, and Samsara’s Customer Data Platform (CDP).

• Collaborate with the BI team to enhance conversational analytics across marketing initiatives.

• Recognize and automate manual workflows using AI from the conceptual stage through to production.

• Establish comprehensive data pipelines and integrate newly onboarded tools into downstream systems.

• Take ownership of the reliability and data quality of the systems you build.

• Convert ambiguous business inquiries into technical specifications and scalable solutions in partnership with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Deliver high-quality code in Python and SQL, and review AI-generated code prior to its production release.

• Mentor engineers, perform code reviews, and establish best practices for the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in data engineering or AI engineering, including substantial hands-on data engineering expertise.

• Advanced knowledge of Python and SQL, along with significant hands-on data modeling experience.

• Proven experience in building and deploying production systems utilizing LLMs or agents.

• Regular use of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor, ensuring verification and accountability of AI-generated outputs.

• Extensive experience with data warehouse architectures, ETL/ELT processes, and modern data stack technologies like Databricks, dbt, Snowflake, or BigQuery.

• Capability to independently lead requirements gathering and align business needs with technical implementation.

• Strong communication and project management skills suitable for engaging both technical and non-technical audiences.

• A software engineering background that extends beyond data or AI engineering.

• Experience in providing direct support to a business function such as marketing, sales, finance, or business operations.

• Competence in evaluating and monitoring LLM systems in a production environment.

• Familiarity with CRM, marketing automation, web analytics, and CDP systems like Salesforce, Hightouch, or Segment.
