This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Wisconsin.
• Manage field property claims independently, including those that necessitate outside field investigations and catastrophe (CAT) responses.
• Conduct comprehensive investigations, evaluate coverage, and prepare relevant documentation such as reservation of rights and coverage letters.
• Identify and actively seek opportunities to transfer risk to suitable entities for the advantage of insureds and business partners.
• Keep meticulous and detailed claim records, ensuring adherence to documentation and jurisdictional requirements.
• Recognize and appropriately assign subrogation potential; establish files to facilitate successful recovery efforts.
• Ensure compliance of all claims activities with regulatory and company standards.
• Execute jurisdictional compliance requirements while aiding others in understanding regulatory obligations.
• Investigate and manage suspicious claims utilizing advanced techniques and tools; refer to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) as necessary.
• Set reserves, authorize payments, and make financial decisions within authorized limits, contributing to the accuracy and efficiency of reserving.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including legal, underwriting, vendors, and agents.
• Leverage advanced tools and analytics to identify trends, rectify inconsistencies, and enhance claims handling efficiency.
• Stay vigilant regarding fraud indicators and regulatory reporting obligations.
• Mentor junior adjusters by offering guidance on complex claims, compliance, and litigation processes.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in claim handling.
• Typically requires 5–10 years of adjusting experience.
• Strong understanding of local geography, regulations, and public safety agencies, with the ability to build rapport with insureds and navigate the insurance and legal landscape.
• Extensive working knowledge of applicable statutes, regulations, case law, and third-party legal liability concepts.
• Proficient in negotiation and formulating strategies to influence outcomes.
• Exhibits sound judgment and decision-making skills, particularly in litigation and compliance matters.
• Communicates clearly and effectively in both verbal and written forms across various situations.
• Highly organized with the capacity to manage complex workflows and project tasks.
• Proficient in using claims systems and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Capable of swiftly assessing customer concerns and anticipating questions, while clearly communicating and translating complex and technical terms.
• Able to collaborate with internal and external experts, including legal, underwriting, and other stakeholders to ensure thorough evaluations.
• Equipped to thrive in a fast-paced, changing, or stressful environment.
• Able to perform work in a noisy or loud work environment.
• May need to maintain a sufficient home-based internet connection.
• Must hold and maintain appropriate state adjuster licenses, continuing education credits, and a valid driver’s license.
• Capability to perform fieldwork in adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle for 4-5 hours per day and to enter and exit the vehicle numerous times throughout the day.
• Ability to load and unload equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds from a motor vehicle as necessary for fieldwork.
• Ability to bend, walk, and climb for several consecutive hours while inspecting damaged buildings, often with utilities turned off or inoperable.
• Ability to safely use a ladder to access roofs and maintain balance while inspecting them.
• Willingness to travel as required.
