This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee the BK publication initiative to fulfill the company's mission by acquiring and developing twelve to fifteen new publications and editions annually.

• Enhance BK’s unique approach to serving as a steward of publications and collaborating with authors to ensure BK’s success in the market, aligning with its mission.

• Collaborate in boosting BK’s profitability and overall financial stability.

• Engage in proactive outreach using various channels (both digital and in-person) to identify potential authors.

• Acquire, develop, transmit, and publish new works or revised editions in BK’s target markets, negotiating and finalizing publication agreements, including both traditional and hybrid formats.

• Offer targeted, in-depth editorial coaching, development, and support to authors from the initial concept to the submission of the final manuscript.

• Ensure cost-effective design and production of publications by guiding authors through the design and production process, assisting them in preparing manuscripts to meet necessary requirements, and facilitating the transmission of final drafts.

• Support authors in crafting effective marketing strategies for their publications by coaching them to engage with BK’s sales and marketing teams. Help authors establish realistic expectations regarding the scope and results of these efforts.

• Collaborate with other departments and staff to keep them informed about upcoming projects and authors.

• Create book tip sheets and profit & loss statements for the publications board, presenting projects for contract approval.

• Actively participate in the planning of seasonal and annual publishing strategies and initiatives.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five years’ experience as an acquisitions editor specializing in nonfiction books.

• Familiarity with acquisitions in one or more of our primary nonfiction fields: general business and management, current affairs and societal change, and personal development.

• Established (and growing) networks, groups, and circles for identifying and signing talented authors.

• Willingness and ability to actively seek out authors through various means (both digitally and otherwise).

• A commitment to engage in substantial editorial work and project development to shape the content, messaging, and focus of the publications, ensuring they maintain high quality and standards.

• Enthusiasm for collaborating with an editorial team that supports your initiatives and works together with you on projects, while also sharing your expertise and guidance.
