This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina, +3 more states.
• Prepare and accurately post journal entries, including accruals, reclassifications, and adjustments, ensuring complete supporting documentation is provided.
• Take ownership of designated areas within the monthly and year-end closing processes, ensuring all deadlines are met.
• Review general ledger activities to identify discrepancies, unusual transactions, and inconsistencies.
• Assist in the preparation and validation of monthly and annual financial reporting packages.
• Aid in year-end closing activities, including the integration of audit adjustments and finalizing balances.
• Create and manage monthly balance sheet reconciliations that align with supporting documentation.
• Investigate and resolve discrepancies, aged items, and reconciling differences.
• Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation and schedules throughout the year.
• Keep audit-ready workpapers available at all times.
• Prepare schedules and provide necessary documentation for annual audits and Form 990 preparation.
• Respond promptly and in an organized manner to auditor requests for assigned areas.
• Assist in implementing audit adjustments and activities related to year-end closeout.
• Apply GAAP principles with a solid understanding of nonprofit accounting concepts.
• Serve as a technical accounting resource for the accounting team, offering guidance on GAAP-related inquiries as required.
• Support accounting functions related to grants, contributions, restricted funds, and new programs or entities.
• Help maintain consistency in accounting practices across various entities.
• Identify and promote enhancements to the closing and reconciliation processes.
• Produce work that is precise, complete, and delivered within the set timelines.
• Take responsibility for assigned areas, clearly explaining the accounting treatment and supporting documentation.
• Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies with minimal supervision, escalating issues as necessary.
• Communicate issues, proposed solutions, and outcomes clearly and succinctly.
• Adhere to established processes while exercising sound judgment in resolving issues.
• Strong technical accounting experience with a comprehensive understanding of GAAP and general ledger processes.
• Proven experience in managing complex revenue recognition, accruals, and high-volume financial data.
• Ability to maintain accurate and audit-ready documentation and financial records.
• Subject matter expert who enjoys training, mentoring, and supporting others.
• Background in public accounting is preferred.
