📋 Description

• Take ownership of key components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes — including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, deferred revenue, and balance sheet reconciliations — to ensure a swift, clean, and defensible close each period.

• Ensure precise ASC 606 revenue recognition for multi-year, multi-element software and deployment contracts, collaborating with Sales and Legal on the review of contracts with non-standard terms.

• Assist in preparing VOLT for its inaugural full external financial audit — managing PBC schedules, working papers, technical memos, and engaging directly with external auditors.

• Oversee invoicing, accounts receivable, collections, and customer billing inquiries, guaranteeing that revenue and AR records are accurate and clean for both reporting and audit purposes.

• Manage accounts payable, vendor onboarding, expense reports, corporate card programs, and 1099 reporting to maintain controlled, compliant, and well-documented spending.

• Handle corporate income tax, multi-jurisdictional sales and use tax, property tax, and other state and federal filings in collaboration with external advisors, maintaining the tax calendar end-to-end to ensure VOLT remains compliant as the business grows.

• Lead the payroll function, including semi-monthly payroll processing, payroll tax filings, benefits and 401(k) reconciliations, equity compensation accounting, and partnering with People Ops on new hires, terminations, and multi-state and international payroll as VOLT expands. Calculate sales commissions.

• Develop and document scalable accounting policies and internal controls that withstand audits and facilitate growth beyond the current stage, with a focus on SOC-readiness over time.

• Enhance the finance technology stack (ERP, billing, expense, AP automation), assisting in the evaluation, implementation, and optimization of tools as the business scales.

• Collaborate with FP&A, GTM, and Operations to ensure accurate financial data is integrated into reporting, forecasting, and materials for the Board.

• Finalize the implementation of the Sales and Use tax system, ensuring that sales and use tax are correctly collected and remitted to tax authorities. Gather customer exemption certificates and maintain records.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a robust understanding of US GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition for software and subscription contracts.

• Proven experience managing a monthly close process from start to finish, encompassing reconciliations, accruals, and flux analysis.

• Demonstrated capability in supporting external audits — including PBC management, walkthroughs, and preparation of schedules. Experience helping a company prepare for its first full external audit is a plus.

• Practical experience with a modern ERP system (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar) and related billing, expense, and AP automation tools.

• Exceptional attention to detail and adherence to processes; take pride in maintaining clean ledgers, precise reconciliations, and well-documented workpapers.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively; comfortable engaging with auditors, advisors, and non-financial teams throughout the organization.

• CPA license or currently pursuing CPA certification.

• Background in Big 4 or public accounting followed by industry experience.

• Experience scaling accounting functions in a Series B / Series C SaaS environment.

• Familiarity with hardware, edge devices, or hybrid software + hardware revenue models.

• Experience supporting compliance programs such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar.

• Proven track record of automating manual closing processes and improving close cycle times.

• Practical experience with modern payroll platforms (Gusto, Rippling, Justworks, ADP, or similar) and handling multi-state or international payroll.

🏝️ Benefits

• Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.

• Generous paid time off and flexible work arrangements.

• Retirement savings plan with company matching.
