This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +4 more locations.
• Oversee regular payroll processing for the United States, Canada, Australia, and Saudi Arabia, ensuring high accuracy and confidentiality for a primarily salaried workforce.
• In the US payroll domain, serve as the lead for managing multi-state relocation compliance—guaranteeing timely registrations for state unemployment (SUTA), local tax withholdings, and adherence to updated state-specific payroll regulations as employees relocate.
• Coordinate calculations for statutory paid family and medical leave (PFML), short-term disability enhancements, and fractional-day pay adjustments while maintaining FLSA exempt status.
• For non-US payroll, possess a solid understanding of and execute the necessary local social charges and tax regulations.
• Collaborate with HR and external payroll/legal compliance advisors to monitor local changes and adjust policies as needed.
• Act as a responsive and supportive resource for employee inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, and tax-withholding matters.
• Prepare multi-currency journal entries that encompass all payroll and compensation-related journal entries, income statement fluctuations, and balance sheet variance analyses.
• Work in close partnership with the Accounting team to ensure accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial closes.
• Conduct balance sheet account reconciliations, identifying errors and implementing necessary corrections.
• Assist in annual external and internal audit processes by preparing audit schedules and relevant supporting documentation.
• Develop optimal procedures and best practices, identifying opportunities for process and control enhancements as well as leveraging AI for increased efficiency.
• Stay informed on changes in US GAAP & IFRS to uphold appropriate accounting treatment.
• Manage the General Ledger (GL) mapping for payroll, ensuring accurate departmental cost allocation, intercompany cross-charges, and tracking of tax liabilities.
• Maintain comprehensive and current process documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all accounting and payroll functions.
• Cross-train with other team members to ensure comprehensive coverage across all accounting areas.
• Support ad hoc financial information requests, analyses, and other special projects as assigned.
• A minimum of 5 years of general accounting experience, preferably within the SaaS or Fintech sectors.
• A blend of Big 4 public accounting experience and industry exposure is preferred.
• A strong eagerness to learn and master comprehensive multi-state payroll operations, state tax nexus, and statutory leave mechanics is essential.
• Solid understanding of US GAAP/IFRS, month-end closing procedures, internal controls, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel (including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and data modeling) with a keen attention to detail.
• Experience with NetSuite or contemporary HRIS/payroll platforms (such as ADP, Gusto, Rippling, Paylocity) is highly advantageous.
• A proactive approach to action, adaptability to shifting priorities, and comfort in navigating complex multi-state regulations are required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial/payroll topics clearly and handle confidential personnel data responsibly.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is necessary.
• CPA, ACCA, or CIMA (either qualified or in-progress) is preferred.
