This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Take ownership of key components in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare and review financial statements along with supporting schedules in compliance with US GAAP.
• Manage complex accounting areas such as revenue recognition, prepaid/accrued expenses, equity, and insurance-related balances spanning multiple carrier programs.
• Act as the primary finance liaison for insurance operations and actuarial teams.
• Engage in strategic growth initiatives, which involve system implementations and the standardization of core accounting processes across expanding business lines.
• Facilitate the annual audit and tax filings by preparing PBC schedules, addressing auditor inquiries, and coordinating with external accounting professionals.
• Reconcile high-volume transaction data across operational systems, payment processors, and the general ledger.
• Drive process enhancements, automation, and the documentation of accounting policies and internal controls.
• Assist with cash management, treasury reconciliations, and intercompany accounting.
• Review the work of and mentor staff accountants; serve as a primary resource for accounting inquiries.
• Collaborate with FP&A, RevOps, and business teams on flux analysis, reporting, and ad hoc projects.
• 4–6 years of progressive experience in accounting.
• CPA certification or active CPA candidate is strongly preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of US GAAP.
• Hands-on experience with month-end close processes and financial statement preparation.
• Experience with high-growth startups, fintech, or insurance sectors is advantageous.
• Proficiency with modern ERP/GL systems such as NetSuite or Sage Intacct.
• Advanced skills in Excel and Google Sheets.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and reconciliation capabilities.
• Self-motivated individual who is comfortable with ownership, navigating ambiguity, and driving process improvements.
• Effective communicator capable of working cross-functionally and explaining accounting concepts to non-accountants.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Exposure to insurance or statutory accounting is a plus.
• Experience with billing/payment platforms like Stripe and data tools; SQL knowledge is a plus.
• Experience in supporting a first-time audit or establishing close processes from the ground up is advantageous.
