This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
β’ Taking charge of revenue reconciliation. You will reconcile donations from various payment platforms, including bank deposits, securities, and cryptocurrency, to a CRM system for general ledger uploads and ultimately regranting to charities.
β’ Conducting the quarterly grants reconciliation. You will execute our quarterly reconciliation from the general ledger to our grants database, ensuring that liabilities are accurately recorded, grants are attributed correctly by grantee, funds are allocated appropriately from our Top Charities and All Grants Funds, and that our net asset rollforward reconciles.
β’ Assisting with complex closing processes. You will engage in closing processes beyond revenue and grants by reconciling investments and recording entries for intricate areas such as lease amortization, intercompany grants, and accrued vacation.
β’ Aiding in audit and tax compliance. You will draft sections of the financial statements and related footnotes, prepare Form 990 support documents, and collaborate closely with our auditors and 990 preparers alongside the Controller.
β’ Promoting process enhancement. You will assist in updating our workflows, particularly concerning the grants reconciliation process, acting as a thought partner to the Controller on how to create a more efficient and scalable finance function.
β’ Guiding the Staff Accountant. You will be a valuable resource and sounding board as they advance in their role.
β’ At least 4 years of financial/accounting experience.
β’ Licensed CPA.
β’ Familiarity with US-based non-profit accounting, such as fund accounting.
β’ Advanced Excel skills. You instinctively know when a formula is needed, are a pivot table expert, and effectively utilize conditional formatting, filters, and other tools to enhance your work's efficiency and clarity.
β’ Proficient with:
β’ Common accounting systems (we currently utilize Sage Intacct, Salesforce, and Bill.com).
β’ Supporting financial audits, including assisting in drafting financial statement footnotes.
β’ Preparing and reviewing Form 990s.
β’ Comfort in exercising independent judgment on technical accounting inquiries and recognizing when to escalate issues.
β’ Highly organized. You are thorough in how you prepare, document, and track your work. You appreciate a close checklist and clearly documented procedures for each workstream.
β’ Strong attention to detail. You bring accuracy and care to your tasks.
β’ Curiosity. You consistently seek to understand how processes can be improved and take the initiative to implement changes.
β’ Excellent communication skills. You write and speak clearly and accurately, tailored to your audience.
