Senior Accountant, Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Assist with daily German accounting operations, ensuring precise and timely bookkeeping.

• Collaborate with external accounting firms and evaluate local accounting outputs.

• Prepare and record journal entries (revenue, accruals, prepaids, payroll, invoices, intercompany, etc.).

• Aid in enhancing the month-end close process and reconciliations (bank, AP/AR, etc.).

• Help manage and ensure adherence to:

• German payroll regulations.

• Tax and compliance obligations.

• Statutory reporting requirements.

• Maintain thorough documentation and uphold internal controls in a dynamic startup setting.

• Assist with German GAAP year-end reporting and coordinate with auditors and advisors when necessary.

• Serve as the main point of contact for limited office operations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of accounting experience (experience in startups/scale-ups is highly preferred).

• Previous role as a Senior Accountant / Buchhalter.

• Solid knowledge of German GAAP, German charts of accounts (SKR 03 or SKR 04), and double-entry bookkeeping (debits & credits).

• Utilize AI tools to optimize finance tasks, including DATEV and Excel.

• Hands-on experience with accounting software/ERP (journal postings, reconciliations, and closing processes) and practical accounting execution.

• DATEV experience is essential; familiarity with NetSuite, Everest, and/or QuickBooks is advantageous.

• Experience with system implementations is a plus.

• Knowledge of German payroll, tax, and compliance issues (either hands-on or managing external partners) — VAT, OSS, corporate & trade tax, withholding tax, etc.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and develop processes from the ground up.

• Proficient in German (C1) and possess strong English skills (B2–C1) for reading and writing.

• Preferred: experience as a Steuerfachangestellter/in (tax clerk) and/or experience with a Big Four firm.
