Security Operations Engineer I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Oversee, prioritize, and investigate security alerts across identity, endpoint, email, SaaS, and cloud environments.

• Take ownership of routine investigations and incidents, ensuring outcomes are documented.

• Collect evidence, establish timelines, evaluate activity, and articulate conclusions.

• Assist senior responders during significant security incidents by collecting evidence, conducting technical analysis, and executing containment and recovery actions.

• Preserve investigation records and provide updates and handovers to team members across different regions.

• Enhance runbooks and refine detection processes.

• Contribute to the development of scripts and automated workflows.

• Engage in post-incident reviews and apply lessons learned.

• Promote Samsara’s cultural principles.

⛳️ Requirements

• Practical experience in triaging and investigating security alerts within a security operations, incident response, or comparable role.

• Familiarity with using a SIEM, endpoint detection and response platform, or an email security solution.

• Knowledge of common threats such as phishing, account compromise, and suspicious endpoint activities.

• Understanding of networking, operating systems, and identity concepts essential for investigations.

• Capability to query and interpret logs, discerning evidence from assumptions.

• Some scripting experience; able to read, modify, and write small scripts in Python or another programming language.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document findings and conduct handovers.

• A meticulous approach to handling sensitive information with a willingness to accept feedback.

• Must be eligible to secure and maintain the legal right to work at the company and in the specified work location.

• No specific degree or certification is required.
