Secondary Systems Engineer – Substations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Manage tenders from transmission system operators (TSOs) for protection and secondary systems in high- and extra-high-voltage substations.

• Design and plan protection systems for 220 kV and 380 kV installations, ensuring compliance with standards and operational safety.

• Develop protection strategies including distance protection, differential protection, and breaker-failure logic.

• Configure protection relays such as Siemens SIPROTEC (e.g., 7SA6, 7SD6) and ensure consistent device settings.

• Engage in technical discussions with TSOs, planners, clients, and internal teams.

• Prepare protection schematics, logic matrices, deviation lists, and technical specifications.

• Create and evaluate FAT and SAT test plans for factory and commissioning tests.

• Assist with protection testing, fault analysis, and commissioning processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field.

• Strong knowledge of protection relays such as Siemens SIPROTEC (7SA6, 7SD6, 7UT6, 7SJ6), ABB RELION, or GE MiCOM both theoretically and practically.

• Proficient in planning software such as ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, or PSS/E.

• Ability to confidently parameterize protection devices using DIGSI 5/6 or ABB PCM600.

• Effective use of testing systems like OMICRON Test Universe (CMC, CMControl) or Doble F6150.

• Familiarity with pertinent standards such as IEC 61850, IEC 60255, VDE 0101/0102, and ENTSO‑E guidelines.

• Capable of producing technical documentation in AutoCAD, EPLAN, or MS Visio accurately and systematically.

• In-depth knowledge of protection engineering, grid operation processes, and secondary systems.

• Willingness to occasionally travel to testing facilities, customer sites, or construction locations.

• Proficient in both German and English.
