SDET/QA Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Develop and implement scalable, maintainable test automation frameworks for web applications, APIs, and distributed systems, while establishing best practices, patterns, and tools that can be scaled across teams.

• Create and execute comprehensive test strategies and plans that encompass integration and end-to-end testing within a distributed system architecture, ensuring alignment with both product and business requirements.

• Identify high-risk areas, particularly those involving sensitive or regulated data, and guarantee that appropriate test coverage and validation are in place.

• Incorporate automated testing into CI/CD workflows to enhance reliability, speed, and confidence in deployments.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure systems are designed with testability, observability, and maintainability as key considerations.

• Work alongside product, data, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into testable scenarios and acceptance criteria, coordinating with offshore QA to define scope, prioritize efforts, and validate outcomes.

• Establish and monitor quality metrics to promote continuous improvement and minimize production defects.

• Provide technical leadership and expertise on quality engineering best practices, contributing to the enhancement of standards across the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–7+ years of experience in software engineering or SDET roles with production-level test automation.

• Proficient programming skills in TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, or similar languages.

• Experience in testing distributed systems and event-driven architectures.

• Practical experience with CI/CD integration.

• Familiarity with systems undergoing active migration or decomposition.

• Proven AI fluency: hands-on experience with enterprise AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) in your engineering workflow to accelerate tasks such as test design, code reviews, debugging, and documentation.

• Strong judgment in AI-assisted tasks: a history of critically evaluating AI-generated outputs before implementation, with a clear perspective on where AI enhances quality engineering versus where human oversight is essential.

• **Preferred:**

• Experience with contract testing (Pact or similar) across service boundaries.

• Background in HIPAA-regulated environments with PHI handling requirements.

• Familiarity with saga patterns, Step Functions, or orchestration testing.

• Experience with service-oriented or microservices architectures.

• Skills in coordinating manual QA efforts, including offshore teams.

• **Nice to have:**

• Familiarity with AWS-native tools (EventBridge, SQS, Lambda, Step Functions).

• Experience testing e-commerce platforms.

• Exposure to testing subscription billing or payment processor integrations.

• Experience with observability tools as part of a quality strategy.

• Familiarity with feature flag testing strategies (LaunchDarkly or similar).

• Exposure to mobile testing environments (iOS/Android) in addition to web.
