This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Construct, enhance, and refine the foundational models that support Virtual Jar's coagulation train, encompassing organics/UV254, turbidity, pH, coagulation chemistry, and associated pre-oxidation, adsorption, and filtration impacts.
• Implement new model versions and various model types into repositories using Python.
• Collaborate with the Digital Solutions team to clarify and rigorously test project scope and requirements.
• Utilize literature-based functional forms, calibration, hold-out validation, parameter discipline, uncertainty reporting, and production-quality code following a Git workflow.
• Create optimization models for coagulants and related treatment processes, including organic-polymer coagulants, filtration, pre-oxidation, and adsorption.
• Collaborate with software development engineers on model specifications, calibration, validation, performance, and documentation.
• Work alongside subject-matter experts to integrate regulatory considerations such as TOC removal mandates, SUVA-based alternative compliance, and DBP regulations.
• Genuine expertise in water treatment, particularly focused on coagulation and the treatment process.
• Understanding of coagulant behavior, NOM/organics removal, DBP formation, oxidation, and filtration.
• A degree in chemical, environmental, or civil engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficient Python engineering skills, including the ability to build, test, document, and deploy model code within a Git workflow.
• Strong scientific modeling discipline, encompassing calibration, validation, parameter management, and reporting.
• Outstanding communication abilities for engaging in highly technical discussions with scientists, engineers, and developers.
• Capacity to collaborate effectively across teams and assist in defining project scope.
• Judicious in identifying feasibility or other concerns at early stages.
• Proactive in addressing feasibility and other issues.
• Willingness to travel occasionally, approximately 10% of the time.
• Preferred experience in applied or published work related to coagulation, NOM/organics, ozonation, adsorption, or filtration modeling.
• Familiarity with statistical/ML methods in conjunction with physically grounded models is preferred.
• Experience in translating research models into deployed software is preferred.
