Scientific Director – Medical Publications

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Manage one or more high-complexity accounts and define as well as implement integrated medical and scientific communication strategies, including publication planning and communication tactics.

• Act as the primary scientific liaison for client stakeholders and clinical leads, ensuring alignment of scientific strategies with brand objectives.

• Set quality standards and best practices for the teams you oversee.

• Ensure the delivery of high-quality content, including manuscripts, congress materials, training resources, digital assets, and MLR-regulated documents.

• Perform thorough scientific reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, and stylistic alignment with AMA, client style guides, and journal/congress standards.

• Guarantee adherence to relevant industry standards, such as Good Publication Practices, International Committee of Medical Journal Editors guidelines, and PhRMA guidelines.

• Lead and advocate for submissions within MLR systems, resolving scientific issues autonomously.

• Facilitate scientific discussions, workshops, speaker training, and advisory board meetings while representing the organization externally.

• Provide scientific leadership in pitches and proposals, collaborating with Client Services on resource allocation, project scoping, and forecasting.

• Supervise 3–5 direct reports (writers/ASDs), conducting performance evaluations, setting objectives, and supporting career development.

• Assist in scoping and resource management for assigned projects, proactively addressing potential risks.

• Maintain rigorous version control, documentation practices, and compliance with internal procedures.

⛳️ Requirements

• An advanced degree in a scientific or healthcare-related discipline is preferred (e.g., MSc, PhD, PharmD, MD).

• Approximately 6+ years of experience in medical communications or medical writing, with a focus on multi-asset or multi-account leadership and oversight of scientific teams.

• At least 2+ years of experience in people management and coaching.

• Exceptional skills in scientific writing, editing, and data interpretation; proficiency in publication standards where applicable.

• Strong knowledge of the clinical research and regulatory environment, with the ability to guide MLR submissions confidently.

• Competence in Microsoft Office, graphic and image generation software, and collaboration platforms.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
