This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee one or more large or highly complex accounts; define and implement integrated medical and scientific communication strategies (including publication planning and communication tactics).
• Act as the primary scientific contact for client stakeholders and clinical leads; align scientific strategy with brand priorities.
• Establish quality standards and best practices within assigned teams.
• Supervise the creation of high-quality content for manuscripts, congress materials, training materials, digital assets, and MLR-regulated documents.
• Conduct thorough scientific reviews to ensure accuracy, alignment, and stylistic consistency (following AMA, client style guides, and journal/congress guidelines).
• Ensure adherence to relevant industry standards (such as Good Publication Practices, International Committee of Medical Journal Editors guidelines, and PhRMA guidelines); lead and defend submissions in MLR systems and resolve scientific issues independently.
• Facilitate scientific discussions, workshops, speaker training sessions, and advisory boards; represent the organization in external settings.
• Offer scientific leadership during pitches and proposals; collaborate with Client Services on resource allocation, scoping, and forecasting.
• Supervise 3–5 direct reports (writers/ASDs); conduct performance evaluations, set objectives, and guide career development.
• Identify training needs and develop structured plans to enhance capabilities.
• Assist in scoping and resource planning for assigned projects; proactively escalate risks.
• Support recruitment efforts for team hires.
• Maintain strict version control, documentation discipline, and compliance with internal procedures.
• Enhance scientific workflows and processes to boost consistency and efficiency.
• Anticipate risks and complex issues; implement mitigation strategies and share therapeutic and industry insights to elevate team knowledge.
• An advanced degree in a scientific or healthcare-related field is preferred (e.g., MSc, PhD, PharmD, MD).
• Candidates with a relevant bachelor's or master’s degree and extensive experience may also be considered.
• Approximately 6+ years of experience in medical communications or medical writing, including leadership of multi-asset or multi-account initiatives and oversight of scientific teams.
• Around 2+ years of experience in people management and coaching.
• Demonstrated excellence in scientific writing, editing, and data interpretation; mastery of publication standards when applicable.
• Strong strategic thinking and client leadership capabilities; expert facilitation and presentation skills are essential.
• Comprehensive understanding of the clinical research and regulatory landscape; comfortable guiding MLR submissions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, graphic and image generation software, and collaboration platforms.
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
