This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Create and develop high-throughput processing pipelines for raster and terrain data aimed at flood mapping, terrain assessment, and DEM conditioning workflows.
• Design and sustain cloud-native geospatial data pipelines that support various formats, including Parquet, Zarr, and NetCDF.
• Enhance performance and scalability of memory- and compute-intensive scientific workflows on a national level.
• Work in collaboration with hydrologists, scientists, and modeling teams to convert domain-specific requirements into dependable and maintainable software.
• Establish and oversee AWS-based infrastructure that facilitates scalable scientific computation and data delivery.
• Participate in the development of backend APIs and data pipelines that support operational hydrologic forecasting systems.
• Implement contemporary software methodologies such as Docker, CI/CD, and automated testing throughout all development activities.
• Undertake additional duties as assigned.
• A Bachelor's degree in computer science, geospatial science, hydrology, or a related discipline (an MS or higher is highly desirable).
• Over 3 years of pertinent software development experience.
• Proficient in scientific Python, including libraries such as numpy, pandas, xarray, and geopandas.
• Experienced in processing extensive geospatial or environmental datasets utilizing GDAL or similar tools.
• Knowledgeable about cloud-native geospatial formats and techniques for chunked or tiled data processing.
• Familiar with AWS storage and computational workflows (S3, EC2, batch).
• Strong foundations in software engineering, covering version control, testing, CI/CD, and Docker.
• Capable of independently handling complex tasks and providing sound technical recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills essential for documentation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
