Safety Investigations Engineer, II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Oversee and facilitate the investigation of potential safety issues in collaboration with key stakeholders, such as Torc Engineering and Fleet Operations.

• Proactively monitor the team's investigations as they detect trends, potential safety defects, and instances of non-compliance.

• Perform comprehensive, data-informed, yet timely investigations to ascertain the scope, cause, and implications of the issue, along with identifying root causes and all possible corrective measures.

• Diligently track and manage identified issues from the initiation of an investigation until its resolution.

• Carry out field inspections of post-incident vehicles or those currently in service as necessary.

• Offer recommendations to leadership and governance groups on potential actions regarding identified issues.

• Promptly notify management of potential safety issues based on their severity.

• Assess field fix performance for efficacy and suggest further actions as needed.

• Collaborate with the Safety Data and Analysis Director to discover and develop innovative analytical techniques and tools to support the identification of concerns, facilitate safety investigations, and utilize available analytics data in ongoing safety investigations and risk management.

• Assist in defining production data collection parameters and the review process essential for monitoring safety performance and ensuring regulatory compliance.

• Engage with NHTSA and other federal and state agencies regarding ongoing investigations and emerging issues.

• Oversee the regulatory reporting of safety defects and coordinate with our business partners.

⛳️ Requirements

• Highly skilled and proficient in the discipline; undertakes significant tasks with minimal supervision and with discretion for independent judgment.

• Exhibits competencies and technical expertise generally acquired through a Bachelor's Degree and over 4 years of experience, or a Master's Degree with 0-3+ years of experience.

• Provides mentorship and training to other Engineers without supervisory responsibilities, serving as a technical expert on critical skill sets (such as EDR analysis, ADS compute logic, etc.) and capable of training others in these areas.

• Role expansion to incorporate Embedded Systems Cybersecurity Incident Response management, alongside knowledge of embedded systems software and architecture related to FUSA, SOTIF, and other pertinent areas of software-based product failure analysis.

• Holds responsibility for key functions, such as IERP and NHTSA response, in a technical capacity, focusing on the continuous improvement of processes and technical infrastructure, as well as the education and dissemination of knowledge regarding these functions.
