RN Clinical Documentation Education & Compliance Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +31 more states.

📋 Description

• Act as a preceptor and mentor for the CDI team members.

• Provide formal training to staff and healthcare providers.

• Create, maintain, and monitor educational materials, training tools, and documentation audits.

• Organize and facilitate CDI staff training, orientation, onboarding, skill assessments, and annual competency evaluations.

• Conduct concurrent, retrospective, and secondary clinical chart evaluations.

• Review charts and clinical queries to ensure compliance with query guidelines, policies, and workflows.

• Offer performance feedback and corrective education to CDI staff members.

• Monitor and report individual and group quality metrics to CDI, HIMS, and executive leadership.

• Design and develop educational materials and programs for providers.

• Advocate for standardized CDI-related education for providers throughout the organization.

• Analyze and disseminate CDI audit and chart-review data.

• Provide data insights to assist with strategic and tactical business opportunities.

• Configure and resolve issues with applications and equipment utilized for data.

• Collaborate with CDI leadership and system-wide teams on initiatives for clinical documentation improvement.

• Serve as a CDI subject matter expert and ICD-CM/PCS trainer.

• Liaise with internal healthcare leadership, external vendors, and regulatory agencies.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of clinical experience in an acute-care inpatient hospital setting.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI).

• Bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent professional experience.

• Current Registered Nurse (R.N.) license in the state of practice.

• Strong understanding of DRG methodologies, coding rules, regulations, and ICD-10-CM guidelines.

• Knowledge of AHIMA Guidelines for Compliant Query Practices and the ACDIS Code of Ethics.

• Proficient with computer-assisted coding software.

• Familiarity with clinical documentation methodologies, opportunities for documentation improvement, and clarification guidelines.

• Capability to work independently.

• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

• Proficient written and verbal communication skills, along with effective time-management skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team.

• Availability to work at least 75% of the shift between 7 AM and 7 PM AZT/MST.

• Self-motivated and possess moderate to strong technology skills.

• CCDS certification preferred within 12 months of employment.

• Previous experience in training, teaching, coaching, and mentoring is preferred.

• Familiarity with adult learning principles is preferred.

• Prior experience with EMR, CDI/Coding, and IT applications is preferred.

• Knowledge of or experience with Cerner is preferred.

• CDIP, CCS, or CPC certification is preferred.
