• Develop and execute high-quality programming: Oversee the design, planning, and implementation of emergency response operations, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality benchmarks.
• Utilize operational playbooks and deployment criteria to quickly establish response programs in an increasing number of countries.
• Perform operational assessments, feasibility studies, and risk evaluations for specific disaster responses, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and contextual realities.
• Monitor and report on program metrics to facilitate learning and performance management.
• Collaborate with partners, vendors, and subgrantees to guarantee seamless execution.
• Become proficient in GiveDirectly’s technological systems and processes (Salesforce, CommCare, Jira, etc.) to enhance project execution and quality.
• Project and team coordination: Oversee daily activities of assigned responses, including task management for field staff and coordination with surge teams.
• Offer coaching and mentorship to junior staff or surge team members during deployments.
• Contribute to team goal-setting, impact monitoring, and knowledge sharing.
• Strategic and external contributions: May be invited to support new business development, donor reporting, or appeal materials, often translating field updates into engaging content.
• Represent GiveDirectly in selected internal and external forums (e.g., Cash Working Groups).
• Engage in ad hoc strategy and/or capability investment projects that enhance GiveDirectly’s global response capacity.
• Alignment with GiveDirectly Values: strong alignment with our values and an active demonstration of core competencies such as emotional intelligence, problem-solving, project management, follow-through, and promoting inclusivity.
• 3-5+ years of experience in roles focused on problem-solving, team management, and/or new business development, including prior experience in humanitarian/emergency contexts.
• Analytical problem-solving: Approaches problems with an analytical and iterative mindset, possessing a solid framework for prioritization and the ability to structure and process ambiguous issues.
• Strong project management skills, with the capability to manage multiple workstreams, prioritize or explicitly de-prioritize, and maintain a high quality standard.
• Strong technical skills, including data analysis and the ability to quickly learn new third-party technology platforms and tools.
• Fundraising: Preference for candidates with a solid background in partnership and relationship management.
• Excellent communication skills: Proficient in speaking, writing, presenting, and negotiating with various stakeholders.
• Ability to quickly adapt to new contexts, rapidly grasping unfamiliar environments, stakeholders, and processes, with a proven track record of establishing effective systems in dynamic situations.
• Enthusiasm for fast-paced environments that may lack a clear playbook for success, involving significant “learning by doing.” Comfort with ambiguity and building systems from the ground up.
