Release of Information Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Accurately and efficiently process designated medical-record Release of Information requests while adhering to required turnaround times.

• Access medical records and requests following client protocols and security measures.

• Confirm requests and patient authorizations to ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards.

• Categorize types of requests and record them in ROI software.

• Retrieve and upload the requested sections of medical charts from both electronic and physical storage.

• Conduct quality-control checks to guarantee accurate releases and avert breaches of PHI.

• Adjust invoices as necessary, and generate invoices and billing documents for clients.

• Release records to authorized requesting parties while rejecting invalid or non-compliant requests.

• Return physically stored records to their designated locations.

• Log exceptions, communications, and pertinent request details in ROI software.

• Respond to inquiries from requestors in a respectful and efficient manner.

• Notify supervisors of questionable requests, suspected breaches, delays, connectivity issues, equipment failures, and security threats.

• Securely store records and files while ensuring adequate office supplies are maintained.

• Assist additional healthcare facilities or manage other request types during high-demand periods.

• Uphold confidentiality, security, ethics, and compliance with VRC, healthcare facility policies, HIPAA, and federal/state labor regulations.

• Keep client information current and accurate.

• Perform other assigned duties as needed.


⛳️ Requirements

• A High School Diploma (GED) is required; a degree is preferred.

• Previous experience in Release of Information fulfillment is preferred.

• Strong attention to detail is essential.

• Ability to prioritize tasks, organize efficiently, and meet deadlines.

• Proven documentation and communication skills.

• Capability to sustain productivity and maintain quality performance.

• Basic understanding of medical records and HIPAA compliance is preferred.

• Prior experience with EHR/EMR systems is desirable.

• Familiarity with a Windows environment and Microsoft Office products is essential.

• Strong proficiency in computer and Microsoft Office applications.

• Experience using printers, computers, fax machines, scanners, microfilm reader/printers, and related equipment is preferred.

• Must be detail-oriented, self-driven, and able to maintain focus for extended periods.

• Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English is required.

• Bilingual abilities are a plus.
