This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• The Release Automation Engineer is responsible for engineering the release pipeline — constructing, fortifying, and perpetually enhancing the automated systems that transition code from a completed sprint artifact to a validated production deployment.
• This position oversees all backend functionalities of releases, which include the pipelines, gates, promotion logic, rollback triggers, and integrations necessary for the entire release workflow to operate with accuracy and minimal human intervention.
• This role extensively utilizes AI to generate pipeline code, pinpoint automation gaps, analyze failure patterns, and expedite the development of more intelligent, self-healing release infrastructure.
• Designs, constructs, and manages the CI/CD pipeline infrastructure across the Engineering organization — creating reliable, swift, and maintainable pipelines in Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions that transport artifacts from code commit through build, test, security scanning, and deployment with consistency and precision.
• Implements and upholds pipeline caching, parallelization, and optimization techniques that reduce build and test cycle times, ensuring that pipeline speed does not hinder engineering delivery velocity.
• Develops the automated artifact promotion workflow spanning development, QA, staging, and production environments, implementing promotion logic that enforces established quality gates, approval requirements, and compliance checks without necessitating manual intervention for standard release scenarios.
• Constructs automated release gates that integrate quality signals from various sources, such as unit test results, integration test outcomes, SAST/DAST security scan findings, code coverage thresholds, and performance benchmarks, automatically blocking promotion when criteria are unmet.
• Incorporates LaunchDarkly feature flag operations into the automated release workflow, designing pipeline steps that provision, configure, and verify feature flag states as part of the promotion process.
• Integrates automated rollback capabilities into the release pipeline, designing trigger conditions, rollback execution logic, and post-rollback validation steps that facilitate rapid and reliable recovery from failed deployments without requiring manual intervention under pressure.
• A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is required.
• Professional experience in CI/CD pipeline engineering, release engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering, with a primary focus on release automation.
• Hands-on expertise with Azure DevOps Pipelines and GitHub Actions, including pipeline-as-code authoring, reusable template design, and multi-stage pipeline configuration for build, test, and deployment workflows.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals — capable of writing clean, maintainable automation code and scripts in languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or equivalent.
• Experience in creating automated artifact promotion workflows with multi-environment gate logic, approval integrations, and automated rollback features.
• Familiarity with container build and deployment automation, including Docker image build pipelines, image scanning integration, and container registry management.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or AWS CDK for environment provisioning and configuration automation.
• Demonstrated use of AI tools to enhance pipeline engineering, automation scripting, or release infrastructure tasks.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities — capable of diagnosing pipeline failures, tracing automation issues through complex multi-stage workflows, and driving systematic root cause resolution.
• Medical and Dental coverage available for employees, dependents, domestic partners, and spouses.
• Paid Time Off – Flexible options plus 10 paid company holidays where available.
• All full-time positions are hybrid, with many eligible for completely remote work.
• Fully Paid by Origami Risk – Vision insurance, Short & Long-Term Disability Insurance, and Basic Life Insurance.
• Generous family leave options—including adoption and foster care placements.
• Pre-Tax Savings Accounts – Flexible Spending Account, Health Savings Account, Commuter Benefits, Dependent Care Savings Account.
• Retirement Savings – 401(k) with company match up to 4%.
• Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – Confidential & Free support offered to colleagues facing personal or work-related challenges.
• Education Assistance Program – to help colleagues pursue industry/role-specific certifications.
• Wellness Benefits – reimbursement program to invest in healthy habits as well as support enhanced colleague productivity and stress management.
• Additional coverages available – Pet Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance, and Voluntary Life & AD&D coverage. Flexible PTO not available in California or the UK.
