This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +4 more states.
• Oversee coordination with essential regulatory bodies, which include:
• Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
• U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
• Prepare and oversee all stages of the FERC licensing process, such as:
• Preliminary Permits
• Notices of Intent (NOI)
• Pre-Application Documents (PAD)
• Proposed Study Plans
• Tribal consultations
• Draft and Final License Applications
• NEPA documentation and review
• License orders and compliance filings
• Create and submit permit applications to federal, state, and local agencies
• Monitor and ensure continuous compliance with all regulatory obligations throughout the project lifecycle
• Track regulatory submissions and proactively address agency comments and requests
• Provide regulatory strategy and advice to internal project teams, including:
• Assisting with study scoping
• Suggesting and coordinating with specialized subcontractors
• Establish and maintain robust relationships with agencies, stakeholders, and community partners
• Stay informed about regulatory policy changes that may affect project development
• Prepare clear and concise updates for senior leadership regarding:
• Licensing status
• Key risks
• Mitigation strategies
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Law, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)
• At least 2+ years of experience in regulatory compliance and licensing, ideally within hydropower or renewable energy sectors
• Familiarity with:
• Federal Power Act (FPA)
• Title 18 of the Code of Federal Regulations (18 CFR)
• FERC and USACE regulatory frameworks
• Experience in supporting or managing permitting for large infrastructure or energy projects
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management abilities
• Capacity to oversee multiple workstreams and deadlines in a dynamic environment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
